Ten trade union leaders of the Lagos State Polytechnic, (LASPOTECH) Ikorodu have been arrested by the Lagos State Police.
The arrest was alleged to be at the order of the outgoing Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

But the police in a statement release by its spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana announcing the arrest in a statement said the LASPOTECH unionists were arrested for molesting JAMB examiners conducting UTME on the campus.
The police spokesman, however, did not explain how the unionists attempted to kill the JAMB officials.LASPOTECH Spokesman, Olanrewaju Kuye, who also confirmed the arrest, said that the affected staff were arrested over alleged molestation of two JAMB staff on official duty on the campus.
Gbemisola in her tweets said, “Yesterday @LasgoOfficial @AkinwunmiAmbode invited my dad and other members of Lagos State Polytechnic SSANIP to resolve an existing CONTISS conflict. They’ve been held at State Investigation Bureau since yesterday. Ambode I will fight you every last drop of blood I have”.

“You people help me beg @AkinwunmiAmbode and Sogunro to release Laspotech SSANIP members they detained since yesterday. I don’t know when it became a crime for people to aspire for a better life for themselves and their children”
“The management trumped up charges of arson against them. Which building was burnt Sogunro @AkinwunmiAmbode? Who was assaulted? Who assaulted Dr. Adegoke?”
Meanwhile, The action of the Police and the Lagos State government have been condemned by Nigerians as lawyer activist, Abdul Mahmud called on the governor to release the unionists.
He said, “8 patriots, including a nursing mother, were detained yesterday on the orders of @AkinwunmiAmbode and on the trumped-up charge of assaulting a JAMB staff while protesting improvement in learning condition of LASPOTECH Ikorodu”.
“I join all Nigerians in calling on @AkinwunmiAmbode to order the release of the 8 patriots/unionists, and withdraw the trumped-up charges. #FreeLASPOTECH8”.
