A member of the Expert Group of Senate ICT and Cybercrime Committee, Rukayat Adeyemi, has described Nigerians as slow responders to public policy, known for taking action at the last minute.
She said this at the Digital Rights and Inclusion Forum 2019 (#DRIF19), yesterday, on the panel “Roundtable on Inclusive Multi- stakeholder Cybersecurity Policy Process” which held at Radisson Blu, Hotel Ikeja.
She blamed the slow pace of the ICT sector on the lackadaisical attitude of a few organisations used to doing nothing about improving the sector until it is late.
“Nigerians are used to fire brigade approach. Nobody wants to do anything until it is late. Then people will say at the end that they were not involved. They think we just collect money there and they use that as their own motivation to work with us,” She stated.
Adeyemi praised Price Water Coopers as the most cooperative bodies, but blamed other bodies for not being forthcoming in the ICT Sector.
“A lot of people come on board until they begin to withdraw. PwC has always been there to get involved. But when the work is eventually completed, several people want glories attributed to themselves,” She explained.
