Six people have been confirmed killed after soldiers from the Cameroon Army invaded Ikata, a village in Southern Cameroon.
The attack was made on social media by award winning investigative journalist, Mimi Mefo on her official and verified twitter handle, on the 29th of April, 2019.
The attack according to her may had occured due to the killing of a soldier suspected separatist Ambazonian fighters.
She said, “Ikata is a village in Muyuka Subdivision in the Fako Division of Cameroon’s restive South West Region.”
“For close to one week now, villagers have been seeking refuge in bushes following the burning of houses, and indiscriminate shooting by the military.”
“On Friday April 26, 2019, after soldiers stormed the village, an old man, two young boys, and a young lady were shot and killed by soldiers loyal to President Paul Biya who has been in power for over 36 years.”
“The woman, identified as Glory, was visiting from Muea and tragically was sent to her early grave.”
“Corpses were littered along the road at the time the fleeing population returned.”
“Other sources said at least six people were shot and killed while others were burnt alive in houses which were set on fire by the “professional military”.
“The exact number of casualties and the damage incurred are yet to be established.
It remains unclear why the village came under attack, but earlier this week in Muyuka, a soldier was beheaded, dismembered and his body parts dumped along the Buea-Kumba highway by suspected Ambazonian fighters.”
