A medical doctor, Chinonso Egemba popularly known as Apropko Doctor has condemned the testing of hyemen has a proof of virginity.
Egemba said this in a series of tweets on his official twitter handle, stating that the hymen is not a proof of virginity and women who take their children to be tested for virginity are wrong and should be discouraged.
He said, “Every lady MUST bleed during her first time” I say fa fa what? Fao! The hymen in most women is like a doughnut with a hole with in the middle, and as a lady approaches puberty and even after, it becomes elastic, so elastic sometimes that sex can occur without tearing”.
“In fact, there are some factors that may increase the chances of bleeding during first sexual intercourse: when sex is forced, when she is not aroused, inadequate lubrication, a vaginal infection, some malformations (e.g. imperforate hymen), bleeding disorder, etc”.
“The hymen can completely cover the vaginal opening. A condition known as imperforatus, The young lady will not see her periods, because the hymen prevents it from flowing out, so it pools in the vagina and forms a hematocolpos This is however rare. Very rare”.

“The hymen is not a proof of virginity and women who take their children to be tested for virginity are wrong and should be discouraged A virgin is one who has had no sexual intercourse before. And yes it is possible to not bleed during the first sexual encounter”.
“Because of this fascination with the hymen, some women have resorted to having anal sex to preserve their virginity. This is a risky sexual behavior and carries with it heightened risks including contracting HIV faster.”
