A foreign affairs analyst and social commentator, known as Onye Nkuzi has said the ‘Africa is a shithole comment’ made by President Donald Trump of the United States is a sentiments shared by majority of the US population.
The analyst said this in a series of tweets on his official twitter handle.
President Trump had in January 2018 in an immigration meeting criticised immigration to his America from El Salvador, Haiti and the African continent, by calling the group “shithole countries”, according to the US media.
He was reported to have said, “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump asked at a meeting with congress members at the White House, reports said on Thursday, citing people with knowledge on the conversation.”
He was said to have suggested the US should instead focus its immigrant entry policy on countries such as Norway. Nkuzi in his tweets said,”
The great thing about Trump, is that he let us know what US politicians really think about Africa, but are too “politically correct” to say out. I can assure you that his “shit hole” sentiments are shared by the majority of US population.”
“Now, if most Americans believe that Africa is a “shit hole”, why would they invest in Africa? And true to that sentiment, they are not investing in Africa.”
“Many Americans believe that China is “wasting its money” by investing in Africa. They say, “let China have it, all of it”He also criticise the US government under Donald Trump aligning itself with controversial Brazil President, Jair Bolsonaro. “Trump per se, is not the problem.
The problem is the kind of people he inspires in nations with much weaker institutions – like Brazil’s Bolsonaro & Philippines Duterte. If both were to adopt full scale fascism, there’s little standing in their way.”
“I have nothing against Right leaning leaders with the temperament of a Sebastián Piñera; but when a major US political party (Republicans) and a US president aligns itself fully with people like Bolsonaro, there’s a problem brewing – it will erupt in future.”
